The department of education has a glorious part in the academic sphere of Barama College. The department was firstly introduced in 1974, three years after its establishment to fulfill the demands of the students. UG Pass course was started in 1976 and Major course (Honour) was started in 1984.
Mrs. Malaya Kakati was appointed as lecturer and Mrs. Dharitri Devi Choudhury as tutor in the establishment year. Mrs. Kakati left the college in 1975 and Mrs. Choudhury has been serving in the department since then as the HOD. After serving alone for two years Dr. Samiruddin Ahmed was appointed as the second faculty. He left the college in 1992. In 1989 Mrs. Kamala Devi was appointed in the third past Dr. Mandita Devi was appointed in 1990. Dr. Dulumani Goswami, Dr. Siba Ranjan Mahanta, Dr. Jagat Swargiary, Dr Dipti Barman, Mr. Pramod Ch. Kalita and Mr. Pulen Goswami served as lecturer in the department for a short period. Mrs. Dharitri Devi Choudhury, HOD has retired on 29th Feb, 2012. Then Mrs. Kamala Devi took the charge of HOD. Mrs. Dwimu Rani Boro was appointed in 9th Oct, 2017. Dr. Mandita Devi has retired on 31st Dec, 2022. At present the department has 3 faculties (Two sanctioned and one contractual).
The departmental library is equipped with more than 300 books. It has departmental psychological lab for lab practical. The intake capacity of the department is 40 (H).
